TechFlow News: On February 20, according to Decrypt, the Dutch Gaming Authority (Ksa) issued a penalty order against Adventure One QSS Inc., the operator of prediction market platform Polymarket, demanding it immediately cease offering services in the Netherlands. The regulator stated that prediction markets constitute “illegal gambling” under Dutch law. Failure to comply could result in weekly fines of €420,000 (approximately $462,000), with a maximum total fine of €840,000 (approximately $924,000).
Ella Seijsener, Head of Supervision and Licensing at the Dutch Gaming Authority, said prediction markets are growing increasingly popular in the Netherlands, but betting offered by such companies is strictly prohibited in the Dutch market—even for licensed operators. The regulator specifically highlighted “social risks” associated with prediction markets, such as potential influence on elections.
