FTX ranked 12th on the global unicorn list.

Recently, CB Insights released its 2021 Unicorn榜单, with cryptocurrency exchange FTX ranking 12th overall and 5th in the fintech category, valued at $25 billion.
Earlier reports from The Information indicated that FTX is seeking to raise $1.5 billion at a valuation of $32 billion. Meanwhile, FTX US, targeting American users, holds a separate valuation of $8 billion. If combined into an updated $40 billion valuation, FTX would rank among the top five unicorns globally.

Judging solely by market valuation does not fully reflect FTX's significance. A more revealing metric is "value per employee"—the average value contributed by each employee—which better illustrates FTX’s standing within the fintech sector.
With a combined valuation of $40 billion for FTX International and FTX US, and approximately 200 employees as stated by SBF during congressional testimony, FTX achieves a per-employee value of about $200 million.
Comparing this with other fintech companies ranked within the top 35 on the CB Insights unicorn list: payment company Stripe, valued at $95 billion with around 5,000 employees, generates $190 million per employee; online financial services provider Klarna, valued at $45.6 billion with about 5,000 employees, achieves $90 million per employee; UK-based fintech Revolut, valued at $33 billion with around 3,000 employees, contributes $110 million per employee; Latin America's largest digital bank Nubank, valued at $30 billion with approximately 4,000 employees, yields $75 million per employee; mobile banking platform Chime, valued at $25 billion with about 1,000 employees, delivers $250 million per employee. In comparison, FTX's per-employee value significantly exceeds that of its peers.
Despite having only around 200 employees—modest compared to other firms employing thousands—FTX has achieved a $40 billion valuation. Put differently, each FTX employee contributes $200 million in value. Rather than focusing solely on high valuations, the per-employee contribution metric offers a more compelling perspective.
