Trump's "Beautiful America Act" stalls in the House, with five Republicans opposed and eight not yet voting
The key threshold for the bill to proceed to formal debate and voting is that the number of opposing votes must not exceed three.

Trump's "Big Beautiful" bill faces opposition within the Republican Party, stalling a procedural vote in the House.
On Wednesday evening local time, five Republican House members voted against a sweeping tax and spending bill during a procedural vote, while eight others abstained—blocking the legislation from advancing to final passage, at least for now.

The voting has been paused for several hours as House Speaker Johnson works to persuade holdouts to switch their votes and secure support from the undecided eight.
A key threshold for moving the bill into formal debate and final voting is that no more than three Republicans can oppose it.
Latest updates indicate that the undecided and opposing lawmakers may be "close to reaching an agreement," with Johnson stating that the final vote is expected to take place "in the early hours of the morning."
Trump rages at midnight: What are Republicans waiting for? Absurd!
As the vote stalls, Trump took to social media to pressure fellow party members, framing the moment as a choice between "the largest tax cuts and prosperous economy in history versus the largest tax hikes and failed economy in history," warning Republicans: "MAGA is unhappy, and this is costing you votes!!!"

Trump added: "Republicans were supposed to easily vote yes. Absurd!!!"

Internal Divisions Widen, Conservative Faction Stands Firm
Some moderate Republicans from competitive districts oppose provisions in the Senate version of the bill that cut Medicaid funding, while conservatives strongly criticize the deviation from the original House budget framework.
According to media reports, Texas Representative Chip Roy criticized the Senate version for increasing deficits and violating terms of the House budget agreement.
Roy listed his objections on social media, including the Senate's weakening of measures to end subsidies for the "Green New Deal scam," and removing key provisions that would block illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid.
Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie told media he switched his vote from "yes" to "no," saying he didn't want a record showing support if this were to be the only vote on the bill.
House member Nancy Pelosi even publicly stated she had endured a "completely stupid long day."
Reports suggest some Republicans were asked to rubber-stamp approval less than 24 hours after voting to advance the Senate bill. Earlier on Wednesday, Speaker Johnson expressed optimism, believing there were enough Republican supporters:
"Most of our agenda is included in this legislation, so it must pass."
Narrowing Time Window, GOP Leadership Applies Pressure
The current vote has already lasted over four hours, and even if the bill advances to final voting, it will require at least another hour.
This casts uncertainty on whether the bill can be signed into law before Trump’s self-imposed July 4 deadline.
Facing internal resistance, Republican leadership is leveraging Trump’s influence to lock down support.
Media reports indicate Trump plans private meetings with key GOP factions, including the House Freedom Caucus, to broker a deal. Johnson will remain in the Capitol to hold individual talks with undecided lawmakers.
The leadership’s message is clear: This may not be the ideal bill for Republicans, but it is the only version that can pass.
Warren Davidson, a conservative Ohio Republican who initially opposed the legislative version in May, has now decided to support the bill. He posted on social media:
"This bill isn’t perfect, but it’s the best we can get."

A senior aide told media, "Although House Republicans wish they could see more in this bill, this is the reality they face now."
