Sonic Airdrop Season 2: Everything You Need to Know
Season 2 marks Sonic's transition from the "growth phase" to the "sustainable development phase."
Author:
Sonic$S token airdrop Season 2 will launch on June 18, with larger scale, smarter mechanisms, and richer rewards.
The new rules introduce a more dynamic structure for users and apps, focusing on rewarding genuine, sustained participation within the Sonic ecosystem.
Whether you're a seasoned DeFi user or a builder developing the next generation of on-chain applications, Season 2 offers more ways to earn incentives and stronger reasons to stay active.
💡 Note: Claiming for Season 1 will open a few weeks after June 18. A review period will be conducted during this time to filter out bots and sybil attacks, ensuring rewards are distributed to real users.
User Section: Season 2 Points System
In Season 1, Sonic used a passive points mechanism to incentivize user participation, successfully attracting around 100k daily active users and fostering a thriving DeFi ecosystem.
Season 2 shifts toward a structure emphasizing fundamentals and sustainability. Key updates include:
❌ Passive points removed
Holding whitelisted assets alone no longer earns points. The passive points mechanism, initially introduced to help new users get started quickly, has now been fully removed.
⚡ Active behavior only rewarded
Users must deploy whitelisted assets within the Sonic ecosystem to earn points, including participating in DEX liquidity provision, lending, and other DeFi activities.
Starting from Season 2, "active points" will simply be called "points," as passive points no longer exist.
📈 Loyalty Multiplier
To encourage sustained engagement and prevent "farm-and-dump" behavior, a loyalty multiplier mechanism is introduced:
-
The initial multiplier is based on Season 1 performance, ranging from 1.0x to 2.0x;
-
Active behavior during Season 2 will dynamically increase or decrease the multiplier, up to a maximum of 3.0x and down to a minimum of 1.0x;
-
Currently applies only to EOA wallet accounts, with potential expansion in the future;
-
The loyalty multiplier will be visible once the MySonic page goes live and will carry forward across multiple future seasons.
💥 Whitelisted Assets
All whitelisted assets from Season 1 remain valid in Season 2, with potential additions throughout the season.
📋 Season 2 Distribution Mechanism
Reward distribution in Season 2 will differ from before. We will announce the final distribution format three months into the season, including the ratio between "immediate release" and "vested release."
App Section: Gems System Season 2
App competition is no longer just about TVL (Total Value Locked). This season emphasizes sustainability, real revenue, and fairness.
Key updates include:
⛔ No Gem Tokenization
Apps are no longer allowed to tokenize Gems. Any violation will result in immediate disqualification from the current season.
However, app teams may choose to:
-
Run their own points incentive programs;
-
Claim $S tokens via Gems to distribute to users in Season 3.
🎯 Incentive Weight
This metric measures the proportion of $S tokens an app actually distributed to users during Season 1 from redeemed Gems.
For example:
-
If an app distributed 100% of its $S to users, it receives a 1x multiplier for Gems in Season 2;
-
If only 80% was distributed, it receives a 0.8x multiplier;
-
Distribution must be completed before the end of Season 2.
💰 Revenue Score
Season 1 prioritized TVL growth while overlooking transaction fees. Season 2 introduces a Revenue Score to reward apps that generate real fees.
-
Only trading fees from whitelisted assets count;
-
Higher revenue indicates stronger product-market fit and greater real value to the network, leading to higher rewards;
-
Incentives are encouraged to shift toward real usage.
⚖️ Category Weighting
Weighting multipliers have been adjusted across different app categories to better reflect their actual contribution to the ecosystem.
📊 Season 2 Gems Allocation Formula
Each app's share of Gems this season will be calculated using the new formula.
🎮 Game Gems maintain the original structure and are unaffected by these changes.
Season 1 Recap
Season 1 launched on December 18, 2024 alongside the Sonic mainnet, aiming to drive early adoption. Users could earn points by holding whitelisted assets (passive) or deploying assets in DeFi (active). Apps competed primarily based on TVL to win Gems.
Throughout the season, Sonic attracted hundreds of thousands of users, reached 100k daily active users, and laid the foundation for sustainable reward mechanisms in Season 2. Season 1 ends on June 18, 2025, with Season 2 starting immediately after.
🗓️ Claim Timeline
The claiming portal will go live a few weeks after June 18 to allow for auditing and removal of bots and sybil attackers.
💧 User Claiming Mechanism
-
25% of rewards can be claimed immediately as $S;
-
The remaining 75% will be minted as a tradable NFT with linear unlocking over 270 days;
-
This NFT can be traded on Paintswap’s secondary market;
-
Early withdrawal of vested portion triggers a penalty burn;
-
The NFT is valid for 6 months—unclaimed portions will be burned after expiration.
💎 App Claiming Mechanism
-
50% of the $S earned by apps can be claimed immediately;
-
The remaining 50% unlocks linearly over 3 months;
-
If an app previously tokenized its Gems, Sonic will provide a centralized frontend for users to claim their rewards;
-
Users have 3 months to claim; otherwise, the rewards will be burned.
🎮 Arcade and Shard Users
Users who participated in Sonic Arcade and those holding Shards will receive all rewards under the same 25% liquid + 75% locked rule.
Summary
Season 2 marks Sonic’s transition from the “growth phase” to the “sustainable development phase.”
-
Users will be rewarded for long-term commitment, not short-term speculation;
-
Apps will be incentivized for real economic contributions, not inflated TVL;
-
Loyalty multipliers will reward sustained activity, making on-chain behavior more important than ever.
This is a smarter, more aligned system designed for those ready to grow with Sonic for the long term.
💡 Reminder: Once Season 2 begins, your points on MySonic will reset to zero, but your Season 1 data will be securely preserved and used to calculate your loyalty multiplier.
