Another Game for the Rich? What Is Quantum Biology DAO, Where Average Investment Reaches $10,000?

When anything becomes intertwined with quantum, it instantly acquires a profound sense of futurism and mystery. Quantum biology is no exception.
This month, the quantum biology DAO "Quantum Biology DAO" raised 1,724.02 WETH—worth approximately $6.886 million at the time—through a token auction on BIO Protocol, far surpassing its original fundraising target by 1,344.74%.
The auction attracted 1,032 bids, with 635 successful transactions completed. If each of these successful bid addresses is considered an independent investor, then each investor contributed an average of over 2.7 ETH (approximately $10,840 at the time). Notably, one address successfully invested as much as 71.6 ETH in a single transaction. Another investor expressed interest in investing up to 88 ETH in one bid, but unfortunately failed to secure tokens due to not meeting the final clearing price.
So what exactly is this “Quantum Biology DAO,” where the average investment exceeds $10,000? And what mysteries and prospects lie within the field of quantum biology that it aims to advance?
What Is Quantum Biology DAO?
According to an article titled "The Future of Quantum Biology" published in the Journal of The Royal Society Interface, quantum biology primarily investigates biological processes that cannot be accurately described by classical physical laws. Typical examples include electron and/or vibrational energy transfer, magnetic field effects in electron transfer and bird migration. Quantum effects manifest as long-range phenomena (such as electron and proton tunneling), exhibit characteristic temperature dependencies, magnetic field responses, involvement of superposition (or delocalized) states, and resonance effects. Quantum biology may also have significant implications for numerous technologies, including sensing, healthcare, environmental science, and information technology.
Similarly, Quantum Biology DAO (shortened to QuantumBioDAO) believes quantum biology holds immense potential impact for health and longevity, biomanufacturing, and the pharmaceutical industry. QuantumBioDAO has already discovered that weak magnetic field effects in biology are measurable—these fields can influence DNA repair, cellular oxidation (a key mechanism for maintaining health), and cell division rates (a core mechanism in biomanufacturing).
In QuantumBioDAO’s view, the impact of quantum biology will further extend into other domains and industries in the future. By appropriately configuring magnetic fields, we could make space travel safer and even sustain life and food supplies on other planets. Moreover, long-lived quantum states stably existing at room temperature in biological systems could inspire the development of more advanced quantum computers.
What QuantumBioDAO does is bridge the gap between fundamental science and traditional venture capital, building a connection between domain experts and the public. It actively engages in educational outreach to demonstrate the relevance and importance of quantum biology, thereby attracting greater attention and funding to the field.
In line with its vision, QuantumBioDAO also plans to support the development of novel quantum instruments—particularly an optical microscope equipped with nanosecond-level time resolution and optically detected magnetic resonance capabilities, enabling direct detection of electron spin superposition states inside cells without damaging them. In addition, QuantumBioDAO aims to create and capture valuable intellectual property (IP) and accelerate the advancement of quantum biology, helping launch a series of quantum biology startups.
The Quantum Biology DAO Ecosystem
The Quantum Biology ecosystem consists of three autonomous entities: the Quantum Biology Institute, Quantum Biology DAO, and the Quantum Biology Incubator.
The Quantum Biology Institute, a nonprofit organization based in California, aims to prove that biological processes operate at the quantum level and lay the foundational knowledge for future research and commercialization.
Legally structured as a nonprofit association (Verein) in Switzerland, Quantum Biology DAO focuses on advancing fundamental scientific research in quantum biology, bridging the Institute and the Incubator, and strengthening communication between technical experts and the general public. Quantum Biology DAO may retain relevant intellectual property rights or fund the development of instrumentation, granting usage licenses to multiple parties.
The Quantum Biology Incubator specializes in nurturing startups aiming to commercialize quantum biology research. Its goal is to become the preferred provider of lab equipment and laboratory space for startups in the quantum biology space. Although the Incubator has not yet been formally established, the Institute and DAO plan to hold equity stakes upon its formation to better align incentives across stakeholders. As a result, any successful outcomes from the Incubator will provide financial returns to both the Institute and DAO, ultimately enabling full self-sustainability.
QuantumBioDAO Token Design
In terms of tokenomics, the total supply of QBIO tokens is capped at 1 billion. Of this, 20% is allocated to the core team, fully locked for one year and released gradually over eight years; 7% is allocated to service providers with no vesting period. Additionally, 55% is allocated to the treasury; 15% is reserved for community auctions (no vesting); and the remaining 3% is set aside for community incentives.
As previously mentioned, QuantumBioDAO successfully conducted a community auction on BIO Protocol, raising 1,724.02 WETH and attracting 635 successful bidders. This means 150 million tokens will be distributed to these 635 addresses. The closing price of the auction was 0.00001149 WETH per QBIO token. Based on a current WETH price of $3,300, this equates to approximately $0.03447 per QBIO token.
Regarding the 3% allocated for community incentives, QuantumBioDAO stated it will develop a specific incentive program after the token auction, tailored to actual community needs and conditions.
Where Does QuantumBioDAO Generate Revenue?
Currently, QuantumBioDAO's primary source of revenue comes from the aforementioned community auction. In the future, if approved through DAO governance mechanisms, additional tokens could be directly sold to raise further funds.
However, token sales represent only the tip of the iceberg in QuantumBioDAO’s efforts toward revenue diversification. The DAO also plans to explore multiple alternative revenue models, such as IP licensing. These intellectual properties could span a wide range of areas, including magnetic field configurations, quantum biology instrumentation, and anonymized patient data or medical interventions processed and compiled by the DAO.
In addition, QuantumBioDAO intends to support the construction of specialized instruments such as quantum microscopes and plug-and-play low-magnetic-field chambers (designed for studying weak magnetic field effects), potentially generating profits through sales or licensing of these tools.
Notably, commercial deployments via the incubator under QuantumBioDAO will also inject new vitality into the DAO’s treasury. Through successful operations of the incubator and deployment of commercial projects, QuantumBioDAO aims to achieve sustained growth and diversification of its revenue streams.

QuantumBioDAO Roadmap
Summary
Longevity and decentralized science (DeSci) are no longer exclusive domains of the wealthy elite—they are increasingly becoming mainstream public topics, opening pathways for broader participation in the democratization of science. However, we must recognize that research in these fields is highly complex, experimental techniques face numerous challenges, and scientific discoveries typically follow incremental paths. Therefore, their deep development will undoubtedly require more time and patience.
