Growth Hacking: The Holy Grail of Web3 Startups | BeWater Growth Bootcamp II
The second BeWater Growth Bootcamp will be held in Singapore on September 20–21.
By Peng Sun, Head of Content at BeWater

You're either growing or dying—that's the reality of Web3. Just like every market cap top 100 project undergoes a complete overhaul in each cycle, new projects consistently emerge through powerful narratives and explosive growth.
2024 is no exception—even with only eight months gone.
This year, TON’s TVL surged past $770 million, up over 5,600% in half a year, compared to just $135.1 million seven months ago.
This year, EigenLayer’s TVL surpassed $20 billion, making it the second-largest DeFi protocol after Lido. At the beginning of the year, it was only $1.3 billion—up nearly 1,400% in six months.
This year, Solana’s TVL exceeded $5.6 billion, up from $1.4 billion at the start of the year—a more than 300% increase in half a year.
This year, Matr1x Fire exploded into mainstream awareness. A game that had only 510 daily active users in early February achieved 1,200x growth within just six weeks.
This year, the joke "every project can launch its own chain" became widespread—but Caldera emerged as the fastest-growing ecosystem, proudly boasting over 60 rollups, 1.7 million unique wallets, and more than $1 billion in TVL.
And this same year, Monad embraced community and meme culture, accumulating over 63,000 community members and 12,000 memes even before mainnet launch—thanks to openness and inclusivity.
Bringing "Growth Hacking" to Web3
Everyone wants to become them, but few know how.
We’ve observed that Web3 is never short of innovative ideas or groundbreaking technology. Many thought about bringing Move to EVM, but only Movement successfully executed it. Due to Web3’s unique nature, most teams remain stuck in hardcore tech without integrating their products into broader technological narratives,
or lack the understanding and capabilities to build business models, growth strategies, and go-to-market (GTM) plans.
Looking back at Bitcoin and Ethereum—whether as global digital currency or a world computer—when crypto calls for “mainstream adoption,” growth becomes an urgent priority.
We need to re-examine “growth.” What truly defines Web3 growth?
From the birth of the World Wide Web in the 1990s to Sean Ellis first coining the term “growth hacking” in 2010, over a decade of refinement gave rise to world-class unicorns such as Dropbox, Facebook, Slack, Airbnb, LinkedIn, and WeChat. As cryptocurrency also approaches its 15th year—constantly evolving at the forefront of technology—there’s an urgent need to establish a Web3-native “growth hacking” framework to rapidly adapt to market demands and technological shifts.
We believe exceptional products must be paired with exceptional marketing to truly cross the chasm into mainstream markets. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural Growth Camp, BeWater will partner with TechFlow to host the second edition of Growth Hacker Camp on September 20–21 in Singapore. We’ll combine current events with real-world marketing insights from dozens of global growth leaders to explore the essence of Web3 growth and deliver maximum value to attendees!

Marketing: What Did They Get Right?
Based on performance over the past six months, we’ve invited mentors from top-tier projects and VCs including Monad, EigenLayer, TON, Solana, Matr1x, StepN, Caldera, BNB Chain, Dragonfly, ABCDE, SevenX, OKX Ventures, and Hashkey Capital. They will share insights across four core themes: personal branding and influence, marketing strategy, community culture and organic growth, and Web2 user acquisition and retention.
“Being able to market yourself is the easiest way to prove you understand marketing.”
We believe that in Web3—a world emphasizing individual sovereignty—defining your differentiation, identifying your positioning, expressing yourself authentically, and maximizing your potential is the first step toward growth.
During the event, Gala, Ecosystem Development Director at BNB Chain; FC, Co-founder of SevenX Ventures; and a guest speaker from Korea will deliver专题 talks on personal positioning, personal development, personal branding, and Web3 growth.
“Marketing is strategy.”
Beyond individual growth, a key mission of Web3 is achieving mainstream adoption—scaling from marketing individuals to marketing communities. In this process, products require growth strategies to systematically progress from 0 to 1, then from 1 to 10. So how do you steer the growth flywheel? How do you craft a winning growth strategy?
To address this, Du Jun, Co-founder of ABCDE and CEO of SparkPool; Kenny, APAC Lead at TON Foundation; Gajesh, Software Engineer at EigenLayer; Adam Jin, Advisor at Solana Foundation; and Saku, Co-founder and CEO of Matr1x will share practical experiences across various aspects of marketing strategy.
“In the world of marketing, no company is too big to challenge.”
Of course, while designing marketing strategies, we must not “lose sight of the forest for the trees.” Past experience shows that if growth hacking focuses solely on short-term user acquisition, it often leads to loss of user trust. Without a solid foundation, growth may stall or reverse. Web2 users have already been exploited by Big Tech—how do we earn their trust, activate them, and retain them? This is the key to Web3 achieving mainstream adoption. Bitcoin, as the original meme, built decentralized consensus for the crypto world. What kind of meme culture do we need today to drive organic community growth?
To answer these questions, BMAN, Co-founder of ABCDE; Tom Schmidt, General Partner at Dragonfly; SungMo, APAC Lead at Monad Labs; Sunny He, Venture Partner at HashKey; representatives from StepN; and Matt Katz, CEO of Caldera will dive deep into topics including Web2 user acquisition and retention, community culture, and organic growth.
“I’d rather create the future than fix the past.”
—To all growth hackers.
