A small step forward for Sun Yuchen's legal victory, blockchain once again "seen"
Famous throughout the world, yet equally criticized—this is the fate of every innovator in each era.

The more famous one becomes, the more controversies follow—so says Brother Sun.
Recently, Sun Yucheng won a lawsuit against Chongqing Business Media Group. The court ruled that the media outlet must issue a public apology, confirming that the claim of his "being investigated by the SEC" was entirely baseless.

In the blockchain space, compliant operations under existing legal frameworks are extremely difficult due to ambiguous boundaries. Especially for high-profile industry figures and trending projects, they often have limited opportunities to voice themselves through mainstream media channels and tend to be passively shaped by external narratives for various reasons.
Regarding this litigation, the media's source was an article published on March 9, 2022, by U.S. tech publication The Verge. That original report explicitly stated that neither the SEC, IRS, FBI, nor any prosecutorial body had directly accused Sun Yucheng. Yet, in the defendant’s article published two days later on March 11, the headline read “FBI Investigates Sun Yucheng, Suspected of Insider Trading – Business Quick News,” with further allegations including “evading ICO bans,” “suspected fraud,” and “money laundering.” These claims were clearly off the mark and published without any fact-checking within those two days.

After a long legal battle, Sun Yucheng emerged victorious. However, he only sought a public apology from the defendant and reimbursement of notarization fees, waiving other forms of compensation. After over two years of emotional distress, justice has finally been served.
Lies travel fast, while truth limps behind
It took two years, but justice arrived nonetheless.
Media power lies in control over sources and distribution channels. As Marshall McLuhan said, “the medium is the message.” What matters is not just the information itself, but how it is framed and which channels are controlled. In this case, the media outlet’s report was essentially a cut-and-paste job from the original article rather than an independently researched conclusion.
Opening the Civil Code, Article 1024 clearly states that civil subjects enjoy the right to reputation, and no organization or individual may infringe upon another’s reputation through insult or defamation. Reputation refers to society’s evaluation of a person’s morality, prestige, talent, creditworthiness, etc.
In Sun Yucheng’s case, the court determined that the defendant, Chongqing Business Media Group Co., Ltd., failed to fulfill its duty of reasonable verification, publishing reports containing false content that infringed upon Sun Yucheng’s right to reputation. Therefore, the court ordered the defendant to bear liability for infringement, including deleting the false reports, issuing a public apology, and compensating losses.
At this point, it’s clear who stands on the side of truth. Two years later, Sun Yucheng has proven himself and received what he rightfully deserved—restoration of his reputation.
Although victorious, it may still take a long time for Sun Yucheng to fully restore his normal public image. In the early stages of technological change and adoption, there will always be pioneers pushing boundaries, breaking taboos, and establishing new industry norms.
There is indeed some injustice here—those who must prove their innocence often become victims of premature stigmatization.
Throughout the wave of blockchain technology, TRON and its founder Sun Yucheng have remained central figures. Sun Yucheng is not only the leader of TRON but also actively facilitated cooperation between USDT and TRON, helping build a stablecoin market worth hundreds of billions and significantly advancing global blockchain adoption.
However, the false reporting in 2022 thrust both him and TRON into the eye of a media storm. Yet Sun Yucheng never gave up—just as he persisted through the two-year legal battle, someone had to stand up.
Sun Yucheng’s victory is not only a defense of personal reputation but may also serve as a significant step forward for compliance in the blockchain industry. During the trial, the court conducted in-depth research into the operational models of the blockchain sector. This not only affirmed Sun Yucheng’s personal compliance but also provided valuable reference points for other blockchain enterprises aiming for compliant operations.

As the blockchain industry moves beyond its wild frontier phase, gaining mainstream acceptance has become urgent. In the West, Europe has introduced more regulatory measures—such as MiCA’s detailed rules for stablecoins—while the U.S. clarifies regulatory boundaries through lawsuits and connects with traditional finance via ETFs. But in the broader Eastern world, apart from China Hong Kong’s special zones and experimental areas, blockchain still has a long road ahead.
Just as the future of crypto is moving toward compliance, Sun Yucheng continues to explore how cryptographic technology can benefit ordinary people. Expanding outward from stablecoins and exchanges, more individuals are being brought into modern financial systems. Even during the two years harmed by false reports, he never let go of his dream of financial inclusion.
Sun Yucheng’s win in this defamation case reveals a commonly overlooked truth: even professionals in the blockchain industry have the right to protect their legal rights through the law.
Conversely, if the blockchain industry can now litigate in court, it indirectly confirms a certain level of legitimacy—an encouraging implication and perhaps the greatest significance of this case.
Personal reputation is small; the Web3 industry is large
No man is an island. Sun Yucheng has always aimed to be a barometer for blockchain industry development.

Let’s be honest: for a long time, the concept of blockchain has carried largely negative connotations in most mainstream discourses. Certain media outlets’ sensationalism does nothing to help drive technological revolution or application—it only breeds misunderstanding.
Like blockchain’s transparency, Sun Yucheng has consistently provided detailed data on TRON and Huobi HTX trading volumes, demonstrating absolute confidence in his platforms. This openness highlights one of blockchain’s core advantages—data transparency and traceability—and helps build public trust in the technology.
While Sun Yucheng has won his reputational battle, some argue it’s an overreaction—not worth taking so seriously. But viewed from the broader perspective of industry development, this case might actually matter greatly for Web3.
Building a positive industry image is closely tied to the personal reputations of its practitioners. As a veteran in the blockchain space, Sun Yucheng has been working tirelessly toward this goal.
As a public figure, Sun Yucheng’s successful defense of his reputation sets a precedent for others. It not only helps protect individual reputations but also reminds the public that criticism and oversight should be based on facts, avoiding unfounded attacks and defamation.
If you browse the comment sections on Sun Yucheng’s social media, you’ll notice two things: first, he faces mockery far more common than outright defamation every single day; second, he never closes his comment sections—letting opinions flow freely, like wind across his face.
In fact, according to Civil Code provisions and court rulings, the defendant used insulting and defamatory language against Sun Yucheng, violating the reputation rights held by all natural persons.
In a sense, Sun Yucheng has never been “canceled” or erased—he has always been present, whether you like it or not.
Sun Yucheng’s victory not only provides legal support for restoring his own reputation but also offers the public an important window into understanding blockchain technology, enhancing awareness and comprehension of the industry.
In fact, the judicial field has strong ties to blockchain as well. For example, China’s Supreme People’s Court once issued “Guidelines on Strengthening Blockchain Applications in the Judiciary,” aiming to further promote blockchain technology within the judicial system.
Blockchain + judiciary can not only improve judicial efficiency and transparency but also drive legal evolution to meet the demands of technological advancement. As a pioneer in expanding blockchain applications, Sun Yucheng has now led by example.
From Bitcoin’s debut in 2008 to Sun Yucheng’s discovery of Ripple and return to China to start his venture, he has experienced nearly every major trend in the industry: public chains (TRON), exchanges, DeFi, stablecoins, NFTs, RWA, and more.
Conclusion
“If heaven had feelings, even heaven would grow old.” Sun Yucheng has now passed his thirtieth year. A generation’s youth has flowed by with time. May this legal victory keep Sun Yucheng true to his original aspirations, continuing to shine for the development of the blockchain industry.
Fame and infamy walk hand in hand—that is the fate of innovators in every era.
