Three-Minute Guide to CARV: A Modular Data Layer for Games and AI
The CARV ecosystem returns data sovereignty to individuals, enabling users to enjoy corresponding benefits from value sharing within gaming and AI systems.

Amid a new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation, "data" has become a growth engine. Today, each person generates an average of 146 GB of data daily through approximately 30 apps, and nearly 90% of the world's data in the past two years has been produced by individuals. While platform-based AI analysis enables personalized experiences, the convenience comes at a cost—individuals’ personal data remains under the long-term control of a few centralized internet platforms. These centralized platforms profit immensely from vast troves of user-generated data, while the actual creators of the data lack control, privacy rights, and even basic entitlement to benefit from their own data.
Although major platforms have reduced cookie tracking amid growing criticism, very few initiatives genuinely return data sovereignty to individuals. As the internet boom begins to wane, blockchain technology has emerged as a promising solution for privacy protection and data ownership—but challenges and opportunities coexist. Blockchain is still far from mass adoption, with complex user experiences and high costs for managing digital assets deterring many potential users.
Therefore, building user-friendly DApps on blockchain that restore individual data sovereignty, while establishing robust economic models and ecosystems around them, has become an urgent challenge. CARV quickly identified this opportunity and evolved from its original focus on gaming—a platform and data protocol dedicated to player credentials—into a modular data layer serving both gaming and AI. Its dual flywheel model combining "infrastructure + applications" and "consumer + enterprise" solutions is now fully taking shape.

What is CARV?
To return data sovereignty to individuals and allow users to earn value from data used within gaming and AI systems, CARV has built its own ecosystem, including the CARV Protocol and two flagship products: CARV Play and CARV AI Agent.
CARV Protocol
CARV Protocol is a modular data layer designed to facilitate data exchange and value distribution in gaming and AI. Through an end-to-end data flow process using a modular architecture—comprising identity, storage, computation & training, execution, and verification layers—it handles data validation, identity authentication, storage, processing, model training, and value allocation. With CARV Protocol, ownership, control, and verification rights over data are returned to users, who can tokenize their data to generate revenue. CARV Protocol ensures these rights remain in individual hands, transforming traditional methods of data usage and sharing.

Additionally, for enterprises, CARV offers access to high-quality, privacy-preserving, and regulation-compliant user data, enabling more effective utilization and improved project operations. On the infrastructure side, CARV Protocol supports the entire data lifecycle, ensuring data monetization and value distribution occur in a decentralized, integrated, privacy-focused, and compliant manner.
Currently, CARV Protocol has provided “data-as-an-asset” services to over 780 companies in Web2 and Web3 gaming and AI sectors—including Electronic Arts, Netmarble, and AliCloud. Moreover, CARV has introduced a new paradigm based on ERC-7231 for aggregated ID NFTs, which has been approved by the Ethereum Foundation. To date, 900K ID NFTs (ERC-7231) have been minted on opBNB.
CARV Play
CARV Play is the first cross-platform credentialing system built on CARV Protocol and currently the largest web3 game distribution and social platform. Players can explore diverse game collections and exclusive events together with communities via CARV Play. Developers also gain access to tools that help understand player needs, enabling efficient game promotion and information dissemination to build vibrant game communities.

To date, CARV Play has served 2.5 million registered players with data sharing, credential management, and substantial gaming rewards across Web2 and Web3 networks. In the last quarter, CARV Play achieved a daily average Unique Active Wallet (UAW) count exceeding 500,000, making it one of the top three most active ecosystems on gaming chains such as Linea, opBNB, zkSync, and Ronin. Additionally, CARV Play has generated over $1 million in Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), integrating and supporting more than 780 Web2 and Web3 games and ecosystems—including Illuvium, Off the Grid, Aperion, and Pixelmon—to better understand player preferences and optimize user retention.
CARV AI Agent
Cara is a generative AI assistant built on the CARV Protocol that delivers personalized AI interaction based on user data, precisely meeting individual user needs. On the infrastructure front, CARV has formed strategic partnerships with Google Cloud and Aethir to provide powerful computing resources and foundational support for AI projects in the Web3 space. Through the Cara AI application, CARV Protocol bridges upper-layer applications and lower-level infrastructure, aiming to become a core middleware for AI projects in the Web3 world.
Funding Overview
-
November 2022: CARV raised $4 million in funding led by Vertex Ventures, a venture arm of Temasek
-
December 2023: CARV pivoted toward data sharing and gaming applications and secured strategic investment from HashKey Capital and a global tech company with over $100 billion in assets; specific amount undisclosed
-
April 2024: CARV completed a $10 million Series A round led by Tribe Capital and IOSG. Participants include Consensys, OKX Ventures, Fenbushi Capital, No Limit Holdings, Draper Dragon, Arweave, LiquidX, and MARBLEX. The funds will be used to develop a cross-chain modular data layer and drive innovation in the data economy.

CARV Token Economics Model
Use Cases and Purpose
CARV is the native token of the CARV ecosystem, serving as a medium of exchange within the platform, granting users ownership over their data, and allowing holders to participate in governance and ecosystem development.
-
Individual users use CARV to pay multi-chain gas fees and purchase in-game assets within the ecosystem
-
Used as incentives to encourage data owners, providers, and consumers to engage in ecosystem activities
-
CARV can be staked 1:1 to convert into veCARV, which grants voting rights for community decisions and participation in ecosystem activities
Token Distribution and Vesting
The total supply of CARV is 1 billion tokens, with full unlocking completed over four years from TGE. Initial distribution is as follows:

Operate Nodes to Earn Additional Rewards
To enable global users to earn greater rewards through the CARV network, CARV announced it will open lightweight node operations to users starting May 13. Participants can acquire validator node operating rights through node sales, join the distributed data network, and earn native CARV tokens. Whitelist node sales will begin at 12:00 UTC on May 24, lasting four days, followed by public node sales launching at 12:00 UTC on May 28. Notably, 25% of the token supply will be gradually allocated to validators, with 50% released in the first year. For the CARV network, distributed node operators will independently verify proofs generated by Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), ensuring data processing integrity and further enhancing network decentralization. Operators earn rewards by running software daily or may opt to one-click delegate node operation to service providers.
Furthermore, following community proposals and discussions, CARV has decided to offer a six-month 100% treasury-backed buyback program for early node sale purchasers. Eligible active validators may apply during the week following the sixth month to receive either 80% ETH or 100% CARV token buybacks. To ensure smooth ETH buyback processing, CARV will deploy smart contracts for escrow management.
