The Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX) begins assessing the deployment of financing functions on Sui
ATHEX is collaborating with Mysten Labs to assess the development of on-chain financing capabilities for its clients.

The Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX) has begun evaluating the deployment of its Electronic Book Building (EBB) functionality onto Sui, making it the first stock exchange to collaborate with a blockchain company on developing this technology. The Athens Exchange Group, which operates ATHEX, will work with Mysten Labs—the core development team behind Sui—to build the solution.
As ATHEX's fundraising mechanism, EBB enables both startups and established companies to list transferable securities. Functioning as a meta-layer atop ATHEX’s existing order routing system, EBB provides liquidity for business proposals seeking capital.
In the context of Sui, ATHEX securities could be hosted on-chain as digitally minted certificates. In this form, they would benefit from strong security, transferability, and a transparent regulatory chain. Although blockchain technology appears to be a natural fit for stock market mechanisms like EBB, such a deployment would mark its first real-world implementation.
Sui’s ability to scale and process transactions in parallel—achieving industry-leading throughput—offers ATHEX the performance needed to serve its clients effectively.
Additionally, decentralized infrastructure such as Sui and the broader internet is resilient against network failures due to the large number of nodes supporting the network. If some nodes fail, transactions can still be processed by the remaining ones. This resilience ensures that ATHEX users are protected from disruptions that might otherwise impact their investments.
Currently, the project remains in the evaluation phase, and its realization will depend on Sui’s network performance and ATHEX’s willingness to host critical functions on blockchain technology.
