OKX and Polygon jointly launch zKEVM Layer 2 network X1
On November 15, OKX announced the launch of the X1 testnet together with Polygon Labs. This network is a new upgraded version of OKBC, using OKX's platform token OKB as the native token to pay for gas fees on the network.
On November 15, OKX announced the launch of the X1 Testnet in collaboration with Polygon Labs. This network is a new upgraded version of OKBC, with OKX’s platform token OKB serving as the native token to pay for gas fees on the network. Notably, X1 is an Ethereum-based Layer 2 network built using zero-knowledge (zK) proof technology, offering high performance and security. Developers can leverage the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK) to build its ecosystem.
From the outset, X1 was designed with global developers in mind, aiming to empower anyone to build applications on its ecosystem to advance the future of Web3. X1 will connect OKX's 50 million+ users with the Polygon and broader Ethereum communities, attracting builders from DeFi, enterprises, and other verticals.
Additionally, as part of the collaboration between OKX and Polygon Labs, OKX will serve as a core contributor to the Polygon CDK, investing significant engineering resources to enhance the technical stack of Ethereum scaling solutions. X1 will function as a new native network for OKX, providing users and developers access to one of the largest blockchain ecosystems in the world. OKX’s platform token OKB will be the native token on X1, used to pay for gas fees across the network.
As a more advanced and builder-, creator-, and Web3 enthusiast-friendly Layer 2 network, X1 leverages zk zero-knowledge proofs to ensure high security and scalability while reducing transaction costs for users. The network is EVM-compatible, enabling developers to seamlessly and securely deploy EVM-based DApps, and integrate with more smart contracts, wallets, and tools.
Jason Lau, Chief Innovation Officer at OKX, said: "X1 is key infrastructure for bringing users into the Web3 world. This highly scalable and flexible network is ideal for developers who want to build user-friendly, world-class Web3 applications on X1 while maintaining interoperability with other networks and ecosystems. Through our partnership with Polygon Labs, we aim to work with the developer community to create more use cases and drive mass adoption of Web3 globally."
Sandeep Nailwal, Co-founder of Polygon, said: "The X1 network provides developers with an affordable and accessible platform to create diverse decentralized applications for users, while also enabling seamless integration between OKX’s large user base and the Polygon and Ethereum ecosystems. Polygon CDK represents a major technological leap forward, making it easy for developers to design and deploy zk-powered Layer 2 solutions on Ethereum. In the future, networks built using Polygon CDK will be able to interoperate and coexist with other zk-powered Layer 2 networks within the Polygon CDK ecosystem. We are excited to collaborate with the OKX team to advance the development and deployment of Polygon CDK technology and the X1 network."
Notably, Polygon CDK was launched at the end of August, enabling enterprises and developers to launch zk-based Layer 2 solutions on Ethereum, offering infinite scalability and unified liquidity. Several tech companies have already announced plans to build Ethereum zk L2s, including Astar—the largest blockchain in the Polkadot ecosystem, Canto—the leading public chain in the Cosmos ecosystem, Gnosis Pay, Palm, and IDEX. In the coming weeks, OKX and Polygon Labs will reveal further details about their collaboration and upcoming developer events.
