Taiko is a project dedicated to becoming an Ethereum-equivalent Layer 2 solution, with key features including:
Full Integration with Ethereum
1/ Uses Type-1 EVM architecture to maintain the highest degree of compatibility with Ethereum
2/ Employs the Based Rollup model, enabling Ethereum validators to also serve as Taiko's sequencers
3/ While potentially less performant than other L2 solutions, prioritizes interoperability with Ethereum
Fully Decentralized
1/ Achieves decentralization through the Based Contestable Rollup (BCR) mechanism
2/ Introduces competition and multi-layered validation systems to avoid centralization risks
3/ Adopts multiple proof systems (SGX, ZK, etc.) to ensure system flexibility and stability
Developer-Friendly
1/ Fully EVM-compatible, reducing developer migration costs
2/ Simplifies development via the Based Booster Rollup (BBR) framework
3/ Enables deployment once to run across all L2s, greatly improving efficiency
Taiko went through seven alpha testnet phases and officially launched its mainnet in May 2024. It has received support from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who participated in generating the network's second block.
