TechFlow news, September 4 — Seal, a decentralized key management solution, announced its mainnet launch, offering encryption and access control capabilities to any developer building on the protocol. With the release of Seal, Walrus becomes the first decentralized data platform natively supporting on-chain access control, enabling integration of programmable data access solutions at any scale. This unlocks new use cases such as sharing proprietary training data or fine-tuned models under strict access policies, token-gated subscription services, and dynamic game content.
Dozens of projects built on Walrus are already using Seal, including Inflectiv, Vendetta, and TensorBlock, demonstrating the immediate practical value of on-chain encryption and access control. Additionally, OneFootball plans to use Walrus + Seal to deliver content with built-in copyright management, while Watrfall is leveraging Walrus + Seal to unlock new models for distribution, ownership, and fan engagement. Alkimi is already processing over 25 million ad impressions daily on Walrus, using Seal to ensure client data confidentiality.
Seal was launched by Mysten Labs, original contributors to the Sui blockchain, aiming to enable programmable, application-specific access control logic through Move, and utilizing identity-based and threshold cryptography to ensure seamless and secure client-side encryption/decryption processes.
