TechFlow, September 2 — According to Bitcoinmagazine, Metaplanet announced at a special shareholders' meeting in Tokyo that it currently holds 20,000 bitcoins and plans to acquire an additional 190,000 bitcoins by 2027 through the issuance of two classes of perpetual preferred shares (Metaplanet Prefs).
Simon Gerovich, President of Metaplanet, said Japan's low interest rates provide the company with low-cost financing advantages, and its goal is to become the world's second-largest bitcoin holder, trailing only Strategy.
According to Jin10 News, the issuance of Metaplanet preferred shares is expected to raise up to 555 billion yen (3.8 billion USD).
