TechFlow news, August 27 — According to Jinshi Data, New York Fed President Williams said the upcoming Federal Reserve policy meeting will be a "live" meeting, suggesting a potential rate adjustment without specifying which course of action he would support. In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Williams stated: "From my perspective, I certainly view every meeting as live." Referring to the Fed's dual mandate of maximum employment and price stability, he added: "We are making the risks more balanced."
After Fed Chair Powell stated last Friday that "downside risks to employment are rising" and that "a shift in the balance of risks may require us to adjust our policy stance," investors have positioned for a rate cut at the September meeting. Williams said the current level of interest rates is "moderately restrictive," meaning the Fed could "lower rates while maintaining some restriction going forward, but we need to get the economic assessment right."
