TechFlow news, August 20 — According to The Block, a New York man has been ordered to pay $228 million in penalties for cryptocurrency fraud. Eddy Alexandre and his company EminiFX were sued by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over fraudulent activities, and the court has ruled they must pay substantial restitution. Alexandre illegally raised approximately $59 million from investors for foreign exchange and cryptocurrency trading, but misappropriated large sums to purchase luxury vehicles and high-end goods. In addition to civil penalties, Alexandre faces criminal charges, has pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to nine years in prison. The case involved thousands of investors, with total losses exceeding $49 million.
