TechFlow news, on August 13, according to Decrypt, Binance Chief Security Officer Jimmy Su revealed that North Korean hacker groups pose the greatest threat to the current cryptocurrency industry, attempting daily to infiltrate Binance by posing as job applicants.
These hackers reportedly use voice changers and deepfake technology during video interviews, impersonating developers from Europe or the Middle East. Su noted a clear indicator of such attackers is noticeable latency during video calls, caused by their use of translation and voice-altering tools.
It is claimed that North Korean state-level attackers also commonly employ two other tactics: planting malicious code in public NPM repositories and sending fake job offers to crypto professionals. NPM (Node Package Manager) libraries or packages are collections of reusable code frequently used by developers. Malicious actors can copy these packages and insert a single line of harmful code, potentially causing severe consequences while maintaining the package's original functionality. Even if this malicious code is detected only once, it can propagate deeper into systems as developers build new features upon it.
