TechFlow, Aug 5 — According to Cointelegraph, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce delivered a speech at the Blockchain Science Conference, emphasizing that regulators must protect people's right to conduct private transactions. She stated that developers of open-source privacy software should not be held responsible for how others use their code.
With the sentencing of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm approaching, Peirce highlighted that rights related to privacy-preserving technologies, self-custody of cryptocurrencies, and developers of open-source privacy software must all be protected. She stressed that such technologies are as vital to societal development as was the 1990s cryptographers' fight to protect the private use of strong encryption.
