TechFlow news, July 31 — According to Decrypt, Canadian cybercriminal Cameron Albert Redman has been sentenced to one year in prison for carrying out social media account hijacking scams.
Redman and his accomplices hacked into the X (formerly Twitter) accounts of digital artists in 2022 and posted fake giveaway links, tricking users into authorizing transactions. Victims unknowingly granted attackers access to their cryptocurrency wallets, resulting in theft of their NFTs and digital assets. The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that the scam affected over 200 victims within several days, generating illicit proceeds of $794,000.
