TechFlow news, July 30 — According to an official announcement, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia recently issued a ruling in a major NFT theft case. Cameron Albert Redman, a 22-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to one year in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft.
Court documents show that in May 2022, Redman and his accomplices illegally accessed social media accounts belonging to several digital artists, then lured users into visiting fake websites to authorize NFT transactions, ultimately stealing victims' cryptocurrency and NFT assets. Within just a few days, the criminal group caused losses for over 200 victims, amassing illegal proceeds of $794,000.
Redman was arrested in Portugal in March 2025 and extradited to the United States. The case was jointly investigated by the FBI's Washington Field Office and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Cybercrime Investigation Team.
