TechFlow news, July 30 — According to Jinshi Data, citing AXIOS, a bill proposed by Republican Senator Josh Hawley to ban congressional stock trading has become a major challenge within the Republican Party. Several sources revealed that due to opposition from Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul, Hawley needs Democratic support to pass the committee vote scheduled for Wednesday.
As a result, Hawley agreed to include language extending the ban to the president and vice president, which would prohibit certain investments by them, broadening the original scope limited solely to members of Congress. Sources said upon learning of this, the White House Office of Legislative Affairs began pushing back, lobbying against the stock trading ban.
