TechFlow news, July 29 — According to Cryptobriefing, Algeria officially enacted Act No. 25-10 on July 24, imposing a comprehensive ban on cryptocurrency-related activities. The law prohibits the issuance, buying, selling, holding, use, and promotion of crypto assets, while also classifying cryptocurrency mining, digital wallet usage, and exchange operations as illegal acts.
Violators face imprisonment from two months to one year, along with fines ranging from 200,000 to 1 million Algerian dinars (approximately USD 1,540 to 7,700). Penalties will be further increased if the offenses involve organized crime networks or financial crimes.
The law defines cryptocurrencies as "property, income, funds, or financial assets," aiming to strengthen anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations and align national standards with those of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
