TechFlow, July 24 — According to CNBC, European investment app Lightyear has announced a new funding round of $23 million led by NordicNinja, with participation from Markus Villig, co-founder of ride-hailing giant Bolt. Other investors include Estonian tech figures such as Taavet Hinrikus, co-founder of Wise, and Ott Kaukver, former CTO of Checkout.com. According to sources, Lightyear's valuation reached between $200 million and $300 million after this round, a significant increase compared to its 2022 fundraising. Founded in 2021 by former Wise employees Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer, the app offers commission-free trading on over 5,000 global stocks, ETFs, and money market funds, currently available in 25 countries. The company aims to build a "European version of Robinhood" and plans to launch its own cryptocurrency product within two months.
