TechFlow, July 22 — According to The Block, the Ethereum blockchain's gas limit has been increased to 45 million units, a 25% rise from the 36 million units set in February 2025. The upgrade activated at block number 22,968,004 and was supported by nearly 50% of validators.
This adjustment does not require a hard fork and aims to improve network transaction throughput and scalability. Developers have also introduced security measures such as EIP-7983, which caps gas usage per single transaction at 16.77 million units to prevent denial-of-service attacks.
Ethereum's short-term goal is to achieve a gas limit of 60 million per block, with a long-term objective of reaching 150 million gas units per block through the upcoming Fusaka hard fork.
