TechFlow, July 22 — According to The Block, the trial of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm has become embroiled in controversy over witness testimony. Defense attorney David Patton challenged government evidence, pointing out that Hanfeng Ling, a victim of a "pig butchering" scam, claimed his stolen funds were laundered through Tornado Cash, but weekend investigations suggest the funds may never have passed through the mixer. Ethereum security expert Taylor Monahan stated on social media that scammers typically do not use Tornado Cash. Storm was charged in 2023 with money laundering and violating sanctions laws, facing up to 45 years in prison if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
