TechFlow news, July 21 — According to Cointelegraph, ConsenSys confirmed a critical bug in its MetaMask browser extension that causes abnormally high write activity to users' solid-state drives (SSDs), reaching up to 500GB per day and accumulating as much as 25TB over three months, significantly shortening SSD lifespan. The issue primarily affects users of Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge, with continuous background writing occurring even when the wallet is not in use. Some users reported the bug has already consumed approximately 50% of their SSD's lifespan. ConsenSys stated it is aware of the issue and actively investigating, with a fix "imminent" that will reduce data write frequency and data-fetching frequency.
