TechFlow, July 14 — According to The Block, during the pre-trial hearing for Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, prosecutors in the Southern District of the United States incorrectly attributed a Telegram message asking "how to cash out $600 million" to the development team, attempting to demonstrate their "culpable knowledge." Court documents from the defense show that the message was actually written by a CoinDesk journalist and forwarded by Alexey Pertsev into the Tornado Cash group. Prosecutors admitted that the original chat logs they provided did not display the "forwarded" label, leading to the misunderstanding, but claimed they had supplied corrected versions by December 2024. Storm's defense team has requested exclusion of all Telegram evidence from Pertsev's phone and challenged the integrity of the grand jury proceedings. Pertsev has already been sentenced by a Dutch court to 64 months in prison for aiding money laundering.
