TechFlow, July 9 — According to Jinshi Data and the Financial Times, EU negotiators are close to reaching a trade deal with U.S. President Trump that would confirm higher tariffs on the EU than those enjoyed by the UK. Brussels is reportedly ready to sign a temporary "framework" agreement stipulating a 10% "reciprocal" tariff from the U.S. president during ongoing negotiations—matching the baseline tariff applied to the UK. However, six diplomats familiar with the matter indicated that the EU is not expected to gain the same level of access to the U.S. market as the UK for steel, automobiles, and other products affected by sectoral tariffs. Additionally, Trump is demanding a 17% tariff on EU agricultural goods. One diplomat said: "The UK's deal is better than this. It's surprising, considering how long we've been negotiating."
