TechFlow, July 5 — According to Decrypt, Sweden's Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer has called on police, tax authorities, and law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts in seizing criminal proceeds, particularly cryptocurrency assets.
The asset forfeiture legislation that took effect in November last year allows law enforcement agencies to seize property "without having to prove that a person has actually committed a crime." This means that if authorities suspect someone has obtained cryptocurrency illegally and the individual "cannot explain its origin," police and other agencies will have the authority to confiscate these assets.
Swedish Democrat member of parliament Dennis Dioukarev supports this seizure initiative and has urged that confiscated BTC be transferred to the central bank of Sweden to establish a national strategic Bitcoin reserve.
