TechFlow news, June 28 — According to Coincu, German regulators have notified Apple and Google that the AI company DeepSeek's data transfers from users in China are illegal. Berlin Data Protection Commissioner Meike Kamp stated that DeepSeek has failed to demonstrate its data protection standards are equivalent to those of the EU.
Earlier in May, German authorities had requested that DeepSeek make compliance improvements, but received no response, prompting escalated regulatory action. DeepSeek was previously investigated by Italy and banned in South Korea for similar reasons, indicating problems with its operational model.
Meike Kamp has called for considering blocking the app, though it remains unclear whether further measures will be taken. Neither Apple nor Google has issued a public statement so far, and DeepSeek remains silent.
