TechFlow, June 20 — According to The Economic Times, the Norwegian government plans to temporarily ban the construction of new data centers for cryptocurrency mining using energy-intensive technologies, in order to secure power supply for other industries. This temporary ban could be implemented as early as autumn 2025.
Karianne Tung, Norway's Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance, said: "The Labour Party government clearly intends to limit cryptocurrency mining activities in Norway as much as possible." She added that cryptocurrency mining consumes large amounts of electricity but generates limited jobs and income for local communities.
