TechFlow news, June 14 — According to CNBC, Philippe Laffont, founder of hedge fund Coatue Management, said Thursday at Coinbase's State of Crypto Summit in New York City: "Although Bitcoin’s early high volatility deterred investors, multiple factors are now driving such mainstream crypto assets to become key components of investment portfolios."
Laffont noted: "First, despite Bitcoin rising nearly 13% year-to-date in 2025, its overall volatility is decreasing. In the past, Bitcoin’s sharp price swings deterred many potential investors and was a primary reason why Coatue previously refrained from investing in Bitcoin."
Laffont also stated: "What interests me is that perhaps the cost of entry into Bitcoin is shrinking. If its beta—measuring an asset’s volatility relative to the market—declines, that would be highly significant. The growing acceptance of Bitcoin by institutional investors marks the maturation of this asset class. For example, BlackRock was one of the leading forces behind the launch of Bitcoin spot ETFs."
