TechFlow, June 9 — According to Jinshi Data, the Conference Board's Employment Trends Index (ETI) for May declined further, falling from 108.00 to 107.49. "The ETI continued to slow in May compared to early 2025. However, despite general caution regarding tariffs, the ETI remains above the 2017–19 average, indicating that the labor market is still on a solid footing overall." The Conference Board noted that the divergence between hard and soft data persists: "Although uncertainty may dampen business and consumer confidence, May employment data suggest hiring continues to keep the labor market roughly balanced. Nevertheless, we are beginning to see erosion in some sectors, which could indicate pressures from tariff changes are emerging."
