TechFlow, June 4 — According to Jinshi Data, European Commission Vice President Šefčovič said after meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Grillo that the EU and the U.S. are moving in the "right direction" in trade negotiations. "Our goal is to maintain this momentum," Šefčovič said. "I believe we can achieve positive results." He added, "But we are also prepared to defend our interests and do our utmost to rebalance our trade relationship." When asked about Trump's recent increase in steel and aluminum tariffs, Šefčovič stated that it was unhelpful for negotiations and urged the U.S. and the EU to work together to address overcapacity issues. According to the European Commission, the tariffs imposed by Trump currently cover 380 billion euros (433 billion U.S. dollars), accounting for about 70% of EU exports to the U.S.
