TechFlow news, July 16, according to CoinDesk, the Linux Foundation officially launched the x402 Foundation, with 40 institutions including Visa, Mastercard, and Ripple becoming founding members to jointly promote standards for AI agents using stablecoins for machine-to-machine payments.
The x402 protocol activates the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" code, enabling clients to directly pay small fees to servers using stablecoins such as USDC without requiring accounts or pre-established relationships. In the past 30 days, the protocol has processed approximately 75 million transactions, with a total volume of approximately $24 million, averaging about 32 cents per payment, providing infrastructure for AI agents to autonomously complete micropayments.
