TechFlow news, June 4 — According to Decrypt, cryptocurrency experts warned during a private luncheon at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas that advances in quantum computing are posing an increasingly urgent threat to Bitcoin. Experts say powerful quantum computers could crack Bitcoin's private keys within the next few years, putting approximately $42 billion worth of Bitcoin at risk and potentially triggering a market "cleansing event." Recent research from Google found that the quantum resources required to break RSA encryption are 20 times fewer than previously estimated, further intensifying concerns. Jameson Lopp, co-founder of Casa, emphasized: "The Bitcoin community needs to reach consensus on mitigation strategies before this becomes an existential crisis." Several solutions have already been proposed, including introducing quantum-resistant cryptographic addresses and limiting the number of transactions from vulnerable addresses.
