TechFlow reports, July 16, according to Cointelegraph, U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Democratic Leader Durbin criticized Trump's Attorney General nominee Todd Blanche on Wednesday, accusing him of dissolving the DOJ cryptocurrency enforcement division in April 2025 while serving as Deputy Attorney General, and claiming this move enabled Trump to profit $1.4 billion through industry connections, including his family business World Liberty Financial.
Durbin also accused former Binance CEO Zhao Changpeng of "facilitating $2 billion" flowing into World Liberty in exchange for a presidential pardon; Zhao Changpeng pleaded guilty to money laundering charges in 2023. Republican Senator Tillis also expressed concern about the pardon; Blanche responded that if confirmed he would review the pardon process and reiterated that the DOJ will not pursue blockchain developers who did not participate in illegal activities.
