TechFlow, June 1 — According to Cointelegraph, Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek announced his resignation on May 30 amid controversy over his department's sale of bitcoin donated by a convicted criminal.
The Justice Ministry previously announced on social platform X that it had raised approximately 1 billion Czech koruna (about $45 million) through the auction of nearly 500 bitcoins. Later, Czech news outlet Denik N discovered that these bitcoins originated from Tomas Jirikovsky, the convicted operator of the darknet marketplace Sheep Marketplace.
In March, Jirikovsky’s lawyer offered Blazek a donation of one-third of the bitcoins, which Blazek accepted without thoroughly investigating the source of the funds. Police are now investigating the origin of these bitcoins.
