TechFlow, May 26 — According to Business Insider, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a $11 billion cryptocurrency fraud case. However, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons has now set his projected release date as December 14, 2044, meaning he will serve less than 21 years in practice. Under Bureau regulations, inmates can earn up to 54 days off their sentence annually for good behavior and may further reduce their time through participation in specific prison programs. Bankman-Fried is currently held at the low-security FCI-Terminal Island facility in California. He was previously found guilty of transferring customer funds to his hedge fund, Alameda Research. His former girlfriend and ex-CEO of Alameda Research, Caroline Ellison, also received a two-year sentence for her role in the scheme and has similarly earned early release credits, with an expected release in May 2026.
