TechFlow news, May 26 — According to Decrypt, a man in New York, USA was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a victim to obtain the password to their Bitcoin wallet.
John Woeltz, 37, was arrested last Friday. Prosecutors said a 28-year-old Italian victim had been held captive for several weeks in a luxury mansion in Manhattan, during which time he was bound, beaten, injected with drugs, and subjected to electric shocks. The victim ultimately managed to escape on May 24 through clever planning.
Police discovered作案 tools including cocaine, a chainsaw, barbed wire, and night-vision goggles during their search of the scene. Prosecutors stated that Woeltz did not act alone and that an accomplice remains at large. Woeltz has now been charged with kidnapping, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and illegal possession of weapons, and the court has ordered him to be held without bail.
