TechFlow, May 19 — According to Decrypt, renowned musician Elton John has recently strongly criticized the UK government's proposed AI copyright reform plan, calling it a "criminal act" and "mass theft" from artists. The plan would allow AI developers to use creative works they can legally access to train AI models without obtaining explicit permission.
In an interview with BBC, John said: "The danger lies with young artists who don't have the resources to constantly monitor or fight against big tech companies." He is among more than 400 artists, including Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran, and Dua Lipa, who signed an open letter urging UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to support amendments to the Data (Use and Access) Bill, demanding transparency in the data sources used to train AI models.
