TechFlow news, May 17 — According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake said the cost of launching a 51% attack on Bitcoin is "significantly lower" than that of Ethereum, estimated at around $10 billion. Currently, approximately 34.16 million ETH are staked on Ethereum, worth nearly $89.6 billion, meaning it would require about $44.8 billion to control over 50% of the network.
Drake pointed out that one major advantage of proof-of-stake (PoS) over proof-of-work (PoW) is that in the event of a 51% attack, the social layer can identify the attacker and impose punitive slashing. Additionally, the community can resolve centralization issues by forking, rendering the compromised chain worthless.
