TechFlow news, May 17 — According to Jinshi Data, U.S. President Trump stated that India has proposed eliminating all tariffs on American goods, but he downplayed the urgency of reaching a trade deal with the world's fourth-largest economy.
In an interview, Trump cited India as an example of a country needing to reduce barriers. "They made it almost impossible to do business. Do you know they're willing to cut 100% of tariffs for the U.S.?" Trump said.
Yet, on the likelihood of reaching an agreement, Trump sent mixed signals: "It'll happen soon. I'm not in a hurry. Look, everyone wants to make a deal with us." He added that he does not intend to "make deals with everybody." Trump's remarks indicate the U.S. will unilaterally decide tariffs affecting many countries. Earlier on Friday, Trump said he plans to set new import rates for trading partners "within the next two to three weeks."
