TechFlow news, May 11 — According to Cointelegraph, former UFC champion Conor McGregor recently proposed a plan to establish a national bitcoin reserve during his Irish presidential campaign, claiming the move would "return power to the people." He stated he will elaborate on this strategic vision in an upcoming X Space session and has invited leaders from the Bitcoin community to discuss details, including Anthony Pompliano, host of The Pomp Podcast, and Trump's crypto advisor David Bailey, both of whom have responded.
McGregor announced his independent candidacy in late March 2025, centering his platform on anti-immigration and crime crackdown policies. If elected, Ireland could join countries such as the United States, El Salvador, and Bhutan in establishing a national bitcoin reserve.
However, McGregor has recently faced controversy over a civil sexual assault conviction (currently under appeal) and a prior investigation into alleged hate speech. Additionally, the presale of the REAL token project he endorsed failed, raising only $390,000—falling short of its $1 million minimum threshold—and has since issued full refunds to all investors.
