TechFlow news, May 10 — According to cnBeta, Google has agreed to pay $1.375 billion to the state of Texas to settle a years-long lawsuit over its privacy practices. The settlement resolves multiple privacy allegations, including those related to location tracking and search history. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called it "a major victory for the privacy of Texas residents."
As part of the settlement, Google must also update its privacy disclosure terms. A Google spokesperson said this resolves a series of outdated complaints regarding product policies the company has long since changed.
The settlement amount exceeds Google's 2022 agreement to pay $391.5 million to 40 states over location tracking practices, and marks another massive privacy-related payout to Texas following Meta's $1.4 billion payment last year to resolve facial recognition claims.
