TechFlow news, May 10 — According to Cryptopolitan, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump will not reduce tariffs on China unless Beijing offers substantial concessions. Previously, Trump had floated the idea of lowering the 145% tariff rate to 80%.
Senior officials from both countries will meet face-to-face this weekend in Geneva, marking their first meeting since Trump raised U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, prompting China to retaliate with 125% tariffs.
With both sides taking a hardline stance, no major breakthrough is expected. The tariff dispute has sharply slowed bilateral trade and raised concerns about a broader economic crisis. The U.S. economy has contracted for the first time in three years, and over 60% of Americans believe Trump is overly focused on tariff policies.
