TechFlow news, May 10 — According to Cointelegraph, cybersecurity researcher ZachXBT stated that law enforcement detained the wrong suspect in connection with the 2022 theft of Bored Ape non-fungible tokens (NFTs) worth over $1 million.
ZachXBT said in a post on X on May 9 that he had identified wallets linked to the scam and connected them to a deleted X account. In 2023, authorities detained Sam Curry, a former Yuga Labs security researcher, at an airport, suspecting his involvement in the incident. In reality, Curry was merely investigating the theft as part of his security duties. ZachXBT traced fund flows—including reconstructing transactions through the Ethereum mixer Tornado—to identify a person he believes may be responsible for the 2022 theft.
