TechFlow, May 9 — According to TechCrunch, Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith said during a Senate hearing today that the company has banned employees from using the DeepSeek application due to data security concerns and to guard against "Chinese propaganda" influence, and has not listed the product on its app store. DeepSeek's privacy policy indicates that user data is stored on servers in China and subject to local laws. Notably, Microsoft previously introduced the DeepSeek R1 model—after security review and modifications—into its Azure cloud platform. This marks the first time Microsoft has publicly acknowledged imposing an internal corporate ban on DeepSeek.
