TechFlow, May 8 — According to The Block, Sei Labs has submitted a Sei Improvement Proposal (SIP-3) suggesting that the Sei blockchain transition its architecture to support only the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), with plans to deprecate CosmWasm and native Cosmos accounts. This proposal aims to simplify the Sei network's architecture, improve user and developer experience, and pave the way for the upcoming Giga upgrade.
Sei is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, currently supporting both EVM and native Cosmos accounts. However, Sei Labs stated that the dual-architecture model increases complexity for users managing addresses and developers maintaining cross-system interoperability. If SIP-3 passes, only EVM addresses will be allowed to initiate transactions in the future; CosmWasm contracts and native Cosmos message handling will be removed. Users will need to migrate their assets to EVM wallets, and developers will have to move their applications to EVM. Sei Labs believes this move will enhance development efficiency and strengthen Sei's competitiveness within the EVM ecosystem.
