TechFlow news, May 8 — According to Cointelegraph, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) confirmed during a recent podcast that his legal team has formally submitted a petition for presidential pardon to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Earlier reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal claimed CZ was seeking a pardon, which he previously denied. CZ stated that one reason for applying was inspired by Trump’s prior pardon of the BitMEX founders.
In November last year, Zhao pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act, paid a $50 million fine, and was sentenced to four months in prison. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, even if pardoned, the money laundering charge would not be erased, but it could allow him to resume a management role at Binance.US.
