TechFlow, May 7 — Matrixport released a chart today indicating that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently stated Ethereum will move toward a simpler and more robust development path—drawing inspiration from Bitcoin's minimalist approach to core protocol design. He advocates simplifying key consensus-layer code and enhancing Layer 2 scalability through more mature zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs and Optimistic Rollup technologies.
The upcoming Pectra upgrade on May 7 integrates the "Prague" and "Electra" upgrade plans, encompassing 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), with a focus on improving network scalability, security, and user experience. Key upgrades include the introduction of account abstraction (EIP-7702), increasing the validator cap (EIP-7251), and doubling data blob throughput (EIP-7691) to reduce Layer 2 transaction costs. Despite some issues observed in early testnet phases, Pectra is still regarded as a crucial step in Ethereum's evolution.
